About Vámonos Spanish
Since 2013 Vámonos Spanish has been creating and developing a successful programme in teaching Spanish as a foreign language for everyone from babies to the retired.
Vámonos Spanish was founded in 2013 by Kay Sambell, however, the concept was created long before. Kay first began teaching Spanish to children in a local primary school, although she first got the foreign language teaching ‘bug’ teaching English as a foreign language in Spain for several years, this is where she developed her knowledge and techniques for teaching a foreign language to both children and adults using only the target language, incorporating fun and interesting methodology.
Upon returning to live in the North East of England she was disheartened by the lack of opportunity to learn the Spanish language in a communicative and engaging way. When word quickly started to get around that there was a fun Spanish teacher who was making children enthusiastic about learning a language, she was approached by many parents in the area to teach more and more classes. From that moment Vámonos Spanish was born, over the last few years, we have grown rapidly and have delivered classes on a weekly basis in various venues, community centres, nurseries, in workplaces and local schools.
In 2016 Kay decided that she would expand Vámonos and begin offering classes in other areas of the North East region. This is where Vámonos Spanish “North Tyne” became the first and original school. Our branches now operate in various parts of the North East. Our goal is for children and adults all over the UK to have the opportunity to learn Spanish using our methodology, and to find pleasure in doing so.
MEET THE FOUNDER
¡Hola! I am Kay Sambell, the founder of Vámonos Spanish, welcome to my school!
I’ve always had a passion for languages, even as a young girl, and as such I excelled at both French and Spanish during my school years. At age 16 myself and a friend began teaching French in local schools at afterschool and lunchtime clubs which gave me the inspiration to travel and teach in foreign countries. I spent several years travelling the world and then decided to settle in Northern Spain and began teaching English to children and adults at a local English academy. [Read More…]
I absolutely adored this job, and this made it a very difficult decision to return to my hometown of Monkseaton, in the North East of England after 9 years living in Spain. I hadn’t intended to set up my own Spanish school, however, after beginning working in a primary school and teaching children a few words each week I saw their enthusiasm and the parent’s desire for them to have more formal learning, so I began classes on a Saturday in a church and Vámonos Spanish was born!
When designing the courses, I knew that the classes had to have something special in order to maintain student’s interest. During the time in which Vámonos has been running, I have tried and tested the various areas of learning and I have learned many tools in order to teach all different types of learners, as everyone learns in different ways, and because of this our classes are now taught in order to manage this.
Having lived in Spain for such a long period of time, I am well accustomed to the cultural side of Spain and to actually being the student of a foreign language, I was very much immersed in the Spanish lifestyle and also had to learn another language while living in Catalonia, Catalan. This has enabled me to see things from the student´s point of view and gives me empathy with the difficulty that comes with learning a foreign language as an adult.
Since 2013 Vámonos has gone from strength to strength and I couldn’t be prouder of our achievements. I hope you enjoy learning Spanish with us at Vámonos Spanish!
